Klokka extension

At least two hours of training a week. At most forty on the project.

A goal in Klokka is a number of hours with a direction: a minimum to reach — weekly training, the month’s sales hours — or a cap not to exceed — a project budget, a team’s hours on internal work. Klokka counts logged hours as they come in, shows where things stand and alerts when needed. It never blocks a time entry.

What counts, who contributes, over which period

You start from a type — “Personal”, “Project budget”, “Team” or “Custom” — that pre-fills the rest. Then you choose the direction (at least or at most X hours), the period (weekly, monthly, total or a date range), what to count hours on (all, a client, a project, a sub-project, an activity) and who contributes (only me, specific users, a group, the whole team). For a cap, from 80% the goal is “Near the limit” and from 100% “Over budget”; for a minimum it is “Behind” while below half, “Achieved” at the target. Each change arrives as a notification and by email, once per period, and the dashboard gathers the goals that need attention.

How it works

  1. Choose the type

“New goal”, then Personal, Project budget, Team or Custom: the fields come pre-filled, and you change them as you like.

  2. Let Klokka count

Hours logged on the chosen scope come in by themselves; the card shows the total and each person’s contribution.

  3. Get the right alert

Near the limit, over budget, behind, achieved: a notification and an email to whoever needs to know, once per period.

A goal stops no one: it tells you in time how far there is to go, or how far past you went.

What you can do

  • Minimums and caps

“At least” for hours that must be there, “At most” for those not to exceed: the same section for training and for budget.

  • A precise scope

Hours are counted on everything or on a client, a project, a sub-project, an activity. A client’s or project’s page shows the goals that concern it.

  • Person, group, everyone

Contributors’ hours add up, and the card shows how much each one put in. Setting goals for colleagues is a separate privilege; team-wide ones stay with administrators.

  • The suggested budget

When you set estimated hours on a project, Klokka offers to create the budget goal with the same number, so you are alerted before overrunning it.

  • Archive and past periods

A concluded goal is archived and reactivated when needed; the result of closed periods is kept.

Frequently asked questions

Who can create goals?

Whoever has the Goals section privilege in their user type creates their own. Setting them for a colleague is an extra privilege, which requires the first; goals for the whole team are set by administrators.

What happens if the extension is off?

The “Goals” section is not there, nor the dashboard widget or the “Goal” option in the agenda. Hours are logged as always: simply, nobody compares them with a target.

Do I lose hours by deleting a goal?

No. Linked time entries are not touched: only the target is deleted.
