Writing
The message goes out when you decide, the way you want it
Recipients come up from the address book as you type, the signature adds itself and the phrases you repeat every day are one click away. And if you notice you forgot the attachment, you still have a few seconds to stop everything.
“Sorry, here’s the attachment”
It’s the second most-sent email at Studio Morelli. With kMail, when you press “Send” the message waits a few seconds in “Outbox”: you cancel it from the notice at the bottom, fix it and send it again. For delicate emails you can hold it in the queue for a few minutes, or schedule it for Monday at nine.
How it works
-
Write
Open “New message” and start typing a name in To, Cc or Bcc: kMail suggests colleagues and contacts from the address book. You format the text with bold, lists, links, colours and images.
-
Polish it
The right signature appears on its own, and with “Change” you pick another one. From “Quick replies” you insert a text you’ve already saved, with its subject.
-
Send, when you want
Press “Send” or Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on Mac). From the menu next to the button you can change the mode for that message: right away, in a few minutes or at a precise date and time.
A few seconds to think twice beat a thousand apologies.
What you can do
-
Recipients from the address book
As you type, kMail searches among colleagues and in the Kontacts address book. If the address is new, you create the contact on the fly with first name, last name and company, without leaving the message.
-
A signature for every occasion
You create several signatures and choose where each one goes automatically: new emails, replies, forwards. The full one with logo for first contact, the short one for replies.
-
Quick replies
The phrases you write every day, like confirming an appointment or asking for documents, you save once with a name and subject and insert into the message with one click.
-
Undo send
In Settings › Sending choose how long you want to change your mind: 5, 10, 15 or 30 seconds. A notice at the bottom counts down and with one click the message goes back to the editor.
-
Delayed and scheduled sending
With delayed sending every message stays in the queue for 1 to 5 minutes, and the button says “Send in 2 min”. With “Schedule send” you choose day and time: the offer arrives on Monday morning, even if you write it on Friday evening.
-
Outbox
Everything still waiting to go out sits in “Outbox”, with recipients, subject and time remaining. A scheduled message you no longer need, you stop from there.
Frequently asked questions
Can colleagues see my quick replies?
No. The quick replies you save are yours: only you see them when writing a message.
Can I send a single message right away even with delayed sending turned on?
Yes. The mode chosen in Settings › Sending is the default; from the menu next to “Send” you change it for the message you’re writing.
Do new addresses end up in the address book?
Yes: when you send to someone who isn’t there yet, kMail adds them to a dedicated address book in Kontacts, so next time you find them among the suggestions. For a full record, create the contact from the recipient field.
Can I write from an external mailbox or from PEC?
Yes. If you write or reply while in an external mailbox, the message goes out through that provider’s server, with the same sending modes: undo, delayed or scheduled.
