The archive stays one; the computer is just another way of opening it

The desktop app for Windows and Mac does not create a second archive: “Open locally” downloads the encrypted file to a temporary folder, opens it with the right program and, on save, sends it back to Files as a new version, with the edit lock active throughout. The folders you want on disk are synced; if the computer was off, on restart it catches up on the missed events. Migration from Nextcloud is done with WebDAV credentials, choosing source and destination.

How it works

  1. Install the app and sign in

    Same Kamzan sign-in. The app checks that Files is active for the company, that the desktop extension is on and that the person may use it: three checks, no extra password.

  2. Open locally, save, close

    From the browser or the app: the file opens in the program on your computer. While open, others see it locked; when you close it, it goes back to the archive as a new version and the lock disappears.

  3. Bring in the old archive

    In Settings, “Migration”: old Nextcloud credentials, connection test, folder selection. The job copies; permissions are assigned afterwards with Files profiles.

No copy on the desktop that doesn’t know where it came from.

  • Windows and Mac

    One app to open locally, sync and see locks in real time. Enabled per company and per person.

  • Sync that catches up

    Events from the last 90 days stay recorded: whoever wasn’t listening — a closed laptop — gets them on return.

  • Chunked upload, with resume

    Large files go up in chunks and resume from where they stopped. A wrong upload is rolled back, and disappears entirely.

  • Migration from Nextcloud

    WebDAV credentials encrypted with the company key, browsing of remote folders, job with source and destination.

  • Space export

    The whole archive, or a folder, in a downloadable package. Your files are yours too: they come in and go out whenever you want.

  • The rest of the ecosystem

    A Files file is attached from kSocial, signed with kSign, read from chat: without copying it, with Files permissions.

In depth

  • External API

    Invoices come out of the management system and must land in the client’s folder; surveys arrive from the instrument on site; the client portal must show their documents. With the external API a program talks to Files as a person would: upload, read, share, with an API key instead of a login.

Frequently asked questions

Is the desktop app included?

It is a Files extension, enabled per company and, if you want, only for some people. The browser does everything even without it.

If I close the laptop with a file open?

The edit lock has a heartbeat every five minutes and expires after fifteen: others can edit again without anyone having to unlock by hand.

How long does migrating from Nextcloud take?

It depends on the size. The job runs on its own and can be followed; the old archive stays as it is until you decide to switch it off.
