Leading
A meeting with many participants, and nobody talking over the others
Whoever organises the meeting has the room in hand: they turn off a noisy microphone, decide who shares their screen, give the floor for a set time and end the meeting for everyone. With one or more co-hosts to help.
A meeting’s time belongs to everyone
A residents’ meeting, a table with twelve suppliers, the Monday sales meeting: when there are many participants, one microphone left on in a noisy room or a speech that never ends is enough to waste everyone’s half hour. In kMeeting, whoever leads has the tools to keep things on track without awkwardness: the controls sit in the participant list, one click away, and anything that affects others goes through a request, not an imposition.
How it works
-
Choose who helps you
Name the co-hosts when you create the meeting or appoint them from the room. They have the same controls as you: they let guests in and manage microphones and screens.
-
Manage the room from the participant list
Next to each name you find the controls: mute the microphone, turn off the webcam, lower the hand, allow screen sharing, remove. To turn a microphone back on you send a request, and the person decides.
-
Give the floor, and end for everyone
With “Give the floor” you assign a turn with a countdown on the speaker’s tile. At the end, “End for everyone” closes the room and disconnects everyone at once.
Whoever leads keeps the thread. The others get the floor, in turn.
What you can do
-
Co-hosts
While you present, a colleague lets guests in and keeps an eye on the chat. Co-hosts are named at creation or appointed in the room, and can be removed at any time.
-
Microphones and webcams, politely
Mute a noisy microphone or turn off a webcam with one click. To turn them back on, you ask instead: the other person sees “The organiser asks you to turn on your microphone” and chooses “Turn on” or “Not now”.
-
You decide who shares their screen
Leave screen sharing open to everyone, or reserve it for yourself and the co-hosts. In that case the others ask for permission: you allow or deny, and you can grant or revoke sharing for anyone you like.
-
Timed speaking turns
With “Give the floor” you choose the duration: a countdown with sound alerts appears on the speaker’s tile, without the microphone being cut off when time runs out. Whoever finishes early presses “I’m done”.
-
Quiet in the room during a turn
When you give the floor you can mute the other participants to remove background noise. Each person can turn their own microphone back on if they need to speak; the organiser and co-hosts aren’t muted.
-
Speaking-turn statistics in Excel
For every turn: who spoke, when, the time assigned, the time actually used and the overrun. There is also a per-speaker summary across meetings, filterable by period and downloadable in Excel.
-
Remove, lower hands, end
Lower a hand left raised after it’s been answered, remove someone who shouldn’t be there and, when the meeting is over, end it for everyone instead of waiting for people to leave one by one.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn a participant’s microphone back on myself?
No, and that’s deliberate: you can turn off anyone’s microphone and webcam, but to turn them back on you send a request. The participant chooses “Turn on” or “Not now”. Nobody ends up with an open microphone without knowing it.
Does the microphone switch off when the turn ends?
No. The duration is a guide: the countdown and sound alerts help the speaker wrap up, but nobody is cut off mid-sentence. Any overrun is recorded in the turn statistics.
Who can see the speaking-turn statistics?
Only the person who created the meeting. They find them from the meeting and download them in Excel, per meeting or as a per-speaker summary over a period of their choice.
Can a removed participant come back?
They are disconnected immediately. If they try to rejoin they go through the waiting room and you decide. To shut them out completely, deny the request or set a password on the meeting.
