The document without the names, to hand to an AI or to someone who must not know them
Masks the personal data in deeds, contracts, rulings and medical reports while keeping the legal or clinical content intact. Detection happens entirely on our servers: no data is sent to external services.
A twin, not an edit
The original stays intact. An anonymised twin file is created, linked to the original and not shown as a separate row, with the label→real value map encrypted and visible only to those with the permission: a single permission governs both starting the job and viewing the map, because that is where the sensitive data lives. Two modes: “Labels” replaces data with placeholders — Person 1, Tax ID 1 — and is reversible, ideal for handing the document to an AI; “Redaction” covers the data with a black bar and removes it from the text, irreversible, for final documents to archive or share.
How it works

Start it and wait for the notification
Right-click → Anonymise. Files extracts the text page by page — with OCR on scans — and detects people, tax IDs, addresses, dates, numbers. It runs as a queued job: you get a notification when the copy is ready.

Review the map
On the left the entities found with their real value, on the right the preview updating in real time. A click takes you to the occurrence in the document; you can rename a label, remove it to reveal the value, or select text to mask it by hand. Scanned pages are flagged: there a check is recommended.

Save: a new version of the twin
Only an explicit “Save” generates the version: a DOCX stays a formatted DOCX with the replacement done in the text and metadata wiped — author, comments, revisions; other formats become a Markdown text, with no metadata by construction.
The legal content stays. The names do not.

Everything on our servers
Extraction, OCR and detection run on Kamzan infrastructure. No document and no personal data leaves the perimeter to be anonymised.

Encrypted map, single permission
The correspondence between “Person 1” and the real name is encrypted at rest. Only those with the “Anonymiser” permission on the folder see it — the same one needed to start the job. Grant it to those authorised to know the data.

Reversible or final
With labels you can always go back, entry by entry. With redaction you cannot: real values are not shown and the black bar stays. Files tells you before generating.

The twin is a real file
It downloads, shares, goes into the document chat, has its own versions. It is not an export: it is a Files document, with everything that entails.

Scans included
Scanned pages go through OCR and are marked “to be checked”: recognition on a 2009 fax can go wrong, and the review reminds you page by page.

It can be removed cleanly
“Remove anonymisation” deletes the twin and the map; the original is intact and you can redo everything whenever you like.
Frequently asked questions
Do documents go through an external service to be anonymised?
No. The detection engine, the OCR and the replacement run on our servers. That is the reason the extension exists: to then be able to use an AI — even an external one — on a document that no longer contains personal data.
What is the difference between labels and redaction?
Labels replace each piece of data with a consistent placeholder (“Person 1” wherever that person appears): the text stays readable and the map lets you go back. Redaction covers with a black bar and deletes the data from the text: final, for a document leaving the company.
Can I use the document chat on the anonymised document?
Yes: the twin is a Files document like any other, so it gets indexed and can be queried. That is the intended use case: the question to the AI starts from a text without names.
How reliable is the detection?
Enough to do the bulk of the work, not to skip the review: that is why the map modal exists, with clicks leading to the occurrence and manual selection. On scanned pages Files explicitly asks you to check.
