Downloading an address book or emptying it

Both are done from the «Address Books» page (left-hand menu), with the icons on the right of the row of the address book.

Downloading

The icon with the down arrow («Download address book (.vcf)»): the browser downloads a single vCard file with all the contacts of that address book. It is the format every other program can read back, so it works both as a backup and to take them elsewhere — and it is re-imported with «Import contacts».

Emptying without deleting

The eraser icon («Empty address book») — it is there only if the address book has at least one contact. The confirmation opens with the number of contacts that will disappear and the warning «This action is irreversible. The address book is kept, but all contacts inside it are deleted.»; the red «Empty» button does it. The address book stays in place — name, colour and shares included — and at the top a message appears for a few seconds saying how many contacts were deleted.

It makes sense before a clean re-import. In every other case, download the .vcf first.

On a phone the two items are in the «Actions» sheet that opens from the three dots on the row.

If you cannot find the down arrow

Exporting is a privilege of its own in the user typology («Esportazione massiva»), kept separate precisely because taking the whole address book away in one go is not an everyday gesture. Ask whoever manages Kontacts users.
