Kontacts guide
Categories: grouping contacts
«Categories» are the words you find a contact with later — “Customers”, “Suppliers”, “Partners”. They sit in the «General» tab of the contact window (the one of «New contact» and «Edit contact»), at the bottom.
To add one: click in the field («Type a category…»), type and confirm with Enter or a comma; the category becomes a chip inside the field. As you type, the categories already in use appear, so you reuse the same word instead of inventing a similar one. With Backspace on an empty field you remove the last one; every chip also has its own x. A contact can have as many as needed.
In the «Contact details» the categories are shown under the details, next to the tag icon.
Categories or address books?
They are two different things and it is worth not confusing them:
- The address book is the container: it decides who sees those contacts and who they are shared with.
- The category is the label: it sits on the contact, and it is there for you to tell things apart within what you already see.
A supplier a colleague must also see goes into a shared address book; a supplier you just want to tell apart from customers gets a category.
