Bringing files in from another system

This is needed once, at the start: bringing in the archive that lived elsewhere.

To do it:

Click «Control centre», at the bottom of the left-hand menu.
Choose «Settings» and then the migration tab.
Fill in the credentials of the system you are coming from: «WebDAV URL», «User» and «Password».
Press «Test connection». If it answers «Connection successful» you go on; otherwise the address or the credentials are wrong, and there is no point continuing.
In «Select folders to migrate», open the tree of remote folders and tick the ones to bring over.
Choose where to put them — the company space or your personal space — and start.

What to expect

It takes time, and it goes on by itself: you can close the page, your computer is free. Notices arrive at the start, halfway and at the end.
The original dates are kept: a document from 2019 stays from 2019.
What is already there is skipped, not duplicated — so if a migration is interrupted, it can be restarted.
If the connection with the old system drops, it pauses and picks up again by itself. If it really drops, it stops and says so.

In the same tab, below, there is the list of jobs with the progress bar and the log: from there you see what was skipped and why.

Who can do it

In their own personal space, anyone. In the company space, only whoever administers: it is everybody’s archive, and not something to set off by mistake.

Before you launch it

Look at how much space is needed: Files checks it has room before starting, but finding out halfway that the quota is not enough is wasted time anyway.

And bring in what is needed, not everything: a migration is the one convenient occasion to leave fifteen years of dead weight behind.
