Stopping a folder from being changed
To protect a folder:
- Right-click on the folder.
- Hover over «Security and preservation» — it has an arrow on the right.
- Choose «Protect folder (only some can edit)».
- In the window that opens, choose who stays free to edit — people or groups — and, if you want, until when (the protection expires by itself).
From then on everyone else sees it read-only: they can open and read, not touch.
It is for the archive of a closed case, for approved documents that must not change, for the period in which something is under scrutiny.
To change who can write: same path, «Edit folder protection». To remove it altogether: «Remove protection», with a confirmation telling you which folder you are about to unlock.
⚠️ Don’t confuse it with an archived folder
The same submenu also has «Archive folder (read-only)», and they are two different things:
- Protected — nearly everyone read-only, but the people you choose can still work in it.
- Archived — read-only for everyone, administrators included. Nobody writes in it, by design. It is removed with «Remove archiving».
”I can’t do anything in here”
If in a folder you cannot rename, move or upload, and it is not a question of permissions, it is almost always one of these two: the marker on the folder tells you. To rule out permissions, click the «Your access» chip in the bar above the list, on the left.
