I deleted a file, how do I get it back

It isn’t lost: when you delete, the file goes to the bin.

To get it back:

1. Open «Trash», the last entry in the left-hand menu.
2. Find the item in the list — under the name it says which folder it came from. If there are many, use the «Search the bin» box at the top of the page.
3. Press «Restore» on its row.

It goes back where it was. If that folder is gone in the meantime, Files tells you and puts it in the main folder.

If you delete a folder, its files and subfolders go with it, and they all come back together when you restore it.

How long do I have

The bin empties itself after a while. How many days items last is written at the top of the Bin page, and every row has its «Days left» column — look there, because your organisation decides the period.

I emptied the bin / I deleted permanently

That does not come back. «Delete forever» and «Empty trash» are one-way actions, which is why you are asked twice.

The one thing worth trying: if the file had been uploaded several times, see whether an earlier version is left (right-click on the file → «Versions») — what you were looking for may still be there.

I can’t restore it

• There is already a file with the same name where it was: rename the current one, then restore.
• You lack the permissions on that folder: restoring puts the file back where it was, so you need to be able to write there.
