The attachment from six months ago is not in the mail. It is in Files, in the sender’s folder.

Every attachment entering your kMail mailbox is saved on its own to your personal Files space, inside a tree that builds itself: mailbox, sender, conversation. The supplier’s quote you find by supplier, not by scrolling through March’s mail.

From kMail to Files, without going through download

The extension is the bridge between kMail and Files: when a message with attachments arrives, kMail hands them to Files, which writes them to the user’s personal space — never to the company space, because mail belongs to the person. The structure is per mailbox — the address that received the message —, then sender or domain, then conversation, with the order of levels configurable. It requires the Personal space to be active and kMail: without one of the two, the kMail page says why archiving is unavailable, with the precise reason. From then on attachments are Files documents like any other: versions, search, document chat, sharing with colleagues within one’s privileges.

How it works

  1. Enable in kMail

    In the mailbox settings: kMail checks that Files, the Personal space and the extension are active and tells you what is missing, if anything.

  2. Mail arrives, files arrive

    Every attachment is written to the personal space under mailbox → sender → conversation. If an attachment is discarded — too big, type not allowed — the reason stays readable.

  3. Find by sender

    In Files, “Email attachments / work@… / rossi-srl.it / Plant quote”: the file is there, with the date, and can be searched by content too.

Mail is a channel. The archive is Files.

What you can do

  • Personal space only

    Attachments belong to the person who received the mail: they land in their space, not the company’s. Sharing them with colleagues is their choice.

  • A self-building tree

    Mailbox, sender or domain, conversation: the order of levels is configured once. No folder to create by hand.

  • Readable discard reasons

    When an attachment is not archived, kMail shows why in words, not with a code.

  • Real files

    Content search, document chat, versions, sharing: the archived attachment is a Files document in every respect.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with Outlook or Gmail?

The extension receives attachments from kMail. In kMail you can also connect external mailboxes: attachments from those mailboxes are archived under their address.

Does it use Files storage?

Yes, in the user’s personal space, within the plan limits. Duplicate attachments — the same signature in every email — can be handled with archive controls and expiry.

Who sees my archived attachments?

You. The personal space is out of everyone’s reach, administrators included. If you want a colleague to see them, you share them, within your privileges.
