Kontacts guide
The first screen of Kontacts
Kontacts opens on your contacts. In the left-hand menu there are two items: «Contacts» (where you are) and «Address Books» — the second one only appears if you can have more than one address book or see shared ones. At the bottom of the same menu there is «Control centre»: settings, notifications, preferences and, for administrators, user management all live in there.
What is on the «Contacts» page
- Top right, three commands: the icon with the sparkle (tooltip «AI Search…»), the icon with the up arrow («Import contacts») and the blue button «New contact». The first two are there only if you have the matching privilege.
- Below, the toolbar: on the left the «Search contacts…» field and, next to it, the address-book dropdown («All address books» when you have not picked one); on the right the three small «Change view» buttons.
- In the middle, the list of contacts.
Three ways of looking at the same contacts
The three small buttons on the right of the toolbar:
- «Cards» (the grid) — one card per person, with coloured initials and the address-book name underneath. Handy for recognising at a glance.
- «List» (the rows) — a table with the columns «Contact», «Organization», «Email», «Address book». The densest one.
- «By organization» (the building) — contacts grouped by company. It is the one that answers “who do I know in that company?”. Whoever has no company ends up under «No organization».
The view you choose stays the next time you open Kontacts too.
Opening a contact
One click on the card or the row: the «Contact details» opens in the middle with everything there is — email, phone, address, categories, notes. If a contact has only a name and an email you read «No further details available for this contact.»: not an error, there is simply nothing else.
Hovering over the card or row shows three icons: the pencil («Edit»), the two pages («Copy to another address book») and the bin («Delete»). The same three sit at the top of the «Contact details».
On a phone: the «Contacts» and «Address Books» items are in the bar at the bottom, with the round + button in the middle that creates a contact. The list is grouped by initial and on the right edge there is the letter index («Jump to letter»): tap a letter and you are there. The address-book dropdown and the three views are computer-only.
