Repeating events

In the event’s small window click the date and time row: under the times the repeat dropdown appears, starting from «Does not repeat». The choices: «Every day», «Every week», «Every month», «Every year»; next to it the «until» field appears to give an end date («No end date» removes it).

For less regular cases — every two weeks, on Tuesdays and Thursdays — choose «Custom…»: the «Custom recurrence» window opens, where you set «Repeat every», «Repeat on» and when it «Ends» («Never», «On» a certain date, or «After» a number of times). The chosen rule is then shown next to the dropdown, and the «Edit» link reopens it.

⚠️ The question that matters: which dates

When you save or delete an occurrence, the «Edit recurring event» (or «Delete recurring event») window opens with the question «To which occurrences should the change apply?». The three answers do very different things:

  • «This occurrence only» — changes this date and nothing else. The right one when one meeting slips.
  • «This and following» — from here onwards. The right one when the time changes from now on and the past must stay as it was.
  • «All events in the series» — touches everything, past dates included. Use it only if the appointment really never was at that time.

If you ever “changed them all” without meaning to, it was this third one.

Changing the rule, not the occurrence

With an occurrence open, under date and time there is the «Recurring event occurrence» box with the series rule and the «Edit series rule» link: it is the way to change how often it repeats, instead of the single appointment.
