Who can see this folder

To see who gets into a folder:

1. Go into the folder.
2. Click the little group of faces in the bar above the list, on the left: that is the «Who has access» chip.
3. A window opens in the middle of the screen with the full list, split into tabs.

You get there from the right-click on the folder too → «Access and sharing» → «Manage access»: it is the same window.

On a phone: the shield icon in the toolbar, which opens the same list as a sheet from the bottom.

The tabs, and why they matter

• «Direct access» — granted on this folder. You remove or change it from here.
• «Inherited access» — it comes from a folder above. You cannot remove it here: you act on the folder it comes down from. If instead you want a different rule right here, use «Grant access» (the blue button at the top of the window) to grant direct access, which wins over the inherited one.
• «Navigation only» — people who see the folder only to pass through it and reach a subfolder of their own.
• «Hidden» — people who would have access but have had the folder hidden.
• «No access» — people who don’t see it.

Then there are people with «Global access»: by their user type they see the whole space. They are not there because someone granted it on this folder, and it cannot be taken away from here.

Taking someone’s access away

In the «Direct access» tab, the «Remove access» button on their row.

If what you see is inherited, that button is not there and the window says so: either you act on the folder above, or — if it is an isolated case — you use «Hide this folder from the user» on their row, which leaves everything as it is for everyone else.

Why a file inside the folder is more open than the folder

It happens: someone shared that single file separately. Right-click on the file, not on the folder → «Access and sharing» → «Manage access», and you see it.
