Files guide
Listing a folder's contents, or rebuilding its structure
Two different things that often get confused: one photographs the contents, the other copies the structure. Both start from the same place — right-click on the folder → «Folder tools» — but they are different entries.
The list of what is inside
To get the list in Excel:
- Right-click on the folder.
- Hover over «Folder tools» and choose «Generate folder index».
- In the window that opens, read how many folders and files it is about to go through, and confirm.
While it works you see the progress and can stop it; at the end the Excel sheet downloads by itself. Inside is the complete list — path, name, type, size, who created it and when, versions, shares. It is for a handover, a check, a change of hands.
Always making the same subfolders
To save a template: right-click on a well-organised folder → «Folder tools» → «Save as structure template», and give it a name (“Audit structure”, “Client onboarding”).
To reuse it: right-click on the folder where you want it rebuilt → «Folder tools» → «Apply structure template». To make a new one from scratch instead, right-click on an empty spot of the list → «New folder from template».
⚠️ It saves only the folders, never the files inside: it is a scaffold, not a copy.
If the entries aren’t there
They are two separate extensions, with two separate permissions — «Folder index» and «Folder templates». You may have one and not the other: click the «Your access» chip in the bar above the list to see which you have.
