Bringing in hours from another program

You only need it once, at the start: to bring in the history that lived elsewhere.

To import you need to:

1. In the left-hand menu, «Time entries».
2. In the bar above the list, on the right, the spanner icon «Tools».
3. In the window that opens, in the list on the left, «Import time entries».
4. Go forward step by step — they are written at the top: «Upload», «Format», «Columns», «Map», «Review», «Done». The first is a box you drag the CSV into (or click to choose it).

Klokka recognises the Kimai, Toggl and Harvest formats on its own. If the file comes from another program, choose «Custom» and tell it yourself which column is the date, which the duration, which the project.

The «Map» step is the one that really matters: that is where you decide which Klokka client and project each name from the old program corresponds to. Done badly, you end up with thirty clients spelt thirty ways.

Before running it

• Look at the preview in the «Review» step: it is the last chance to notice the dates are month/day instead of day/month.
• Import what you need. An import is the one convenient chance to leave behind years of data nobody will look at again.

The «History» tab, at the top of the window, keeps the imports already done.

Whose hours

If you do not manage Klokka, the imported hours all go to you: your history, not the whole archive’s. An administrator can instead assign them to the right colleagues in the «Map» step, «Users» tab.

On a phone the «Tools» icon is not there: importing is done from a computer.
