Letting in people who have no account

The meeting link can be taken in three places: in the room, with «Copy meeting link» in the bottom bar — the «Meeting link» window opens with the «Copy link» button; on the preparation screen, under «Guest invite link»; in the list, with the «Copy link» icon on the row.

⚠️ In the window you read what it implies: «Anyone with this link can join as a guest. You can manage permissions from the room.» The link does not tell people apart: it behaves like a key.

The three defences, in order of strength

They all live in the «Options» step of creation (or in «Edit» on the meeting row):

  1. «Enable lobby» — the link brings people to the door, not inside. You approve them, from the Participants panel.
  2. «Password (optional)» — whoever does not have it does not get in, not even with the link.
  3. «Allow guest access» off — only people from your organisation get in, and the link is useless to an outsider.

For a meeting with a client the sensible combination is link + waiting room. For a confidential meeting, the password.

Who comes in as a guest

On the preparation screen they are asked for «First name» and «Last name», and in the Participants panel they show up as «Guest». From then on you can treat them like everyone else: mute them, allow them to share, promote them.

In encrypted meetings it is different

There the generic link does not exist, and the link window says so: «This meeting is end-to-end encrypted: only people with an account can join with this link. To invite external people, send them an email invite — they’ll get a personal link.» The «Invite by email» button takes you straight there. See the page on end-to-end encryption.
